Partiality

Proverbs 11:1?The LORD abhors dishonest scales, but accurate weights are his delight.?

Proverbs 16:11?Honest scales and balances are from the LORD; all the weights in the bag are of his making.

Proverbs 20:23?The LORD detests differing weights, and dishonest scales do not please him.

You see, back in the day that these were written, the market place sold goods according to weight – much like a deli sells meat today – however – their scales weren’t digitized like ours – and they relied on a a balancing scale… like a see-saw – with a tray attached on either end. If you were to order a pound of wheat, they would put a one pound weight in one tray – and fill the other tray till the trays were equally balanced…

Unscrupulous merchants would cheat the buyer though, using false weights – so that if you ordered a pound, he might use a weight that actually weighed 7/8ths of a pound – thus cheating the consumer.

In a way we see this in todays products when we buy a jar of peanut butter that looks to be the same size we have purchaced for years only to discover its a few ounces short and instead of making the package visibly smaller they’ve put a concave divot in the bottom of the jar… or when you buy a bag of chips THIS BIG but its only half full – its true – some settling can occur during shipping – but half the bag?

Putting the world of retail sales aside for a moment though – there is a principal at play here that we ought not ignore… and that is the Lord despises the deception and hypocricy of the person using false weights… Now this is something here that I wish everyone would embrace – we have to apply this same principal when we are discerning any situation…

I recently had people in a comment section who were literally brawling with words… both were hateful and inflamatory towards each other. When I finally saw what was happening, I said they both should be ashamed of themselves – that their bickering was a disgrace to the Lord – and further more I confessed to be just as guilty of that myself – and said WE – as in all three parties – should be ashamed of ourselves… I was trying to use fair weights to resolve the conflict…

This, of course, didn’t work out the way I had hoped, as a yet another person got involved and his weights were completely in favor of one of the two individuals… it didn’t seem to matter how wrong the person he was defending was – and it escalated to a threat of him coming to break my nose… lol… how did that happen? dishonest scales…

And we see it all the time – especially in Christianity… people more than willing to overlook the transgressions of those they favor while they gouge at the souls of people they dislike. Its one of the reasons there is so much animosity between the denominations… its one of the reasons people see Christians as hypocrites…

We should really stop pretending to be elitists of this world – and humble ourselves to the fact that the very essence of Christianity should be that which people call ideal but unobtainable – and that is complete and total love in all situations through the power of the Holy Spirit… I have heard it from my best friends – hey bro – that sounds great – that sounds good – but life doesn’t doesn’t work that way – I say – it doesn’t work that way because we are refusing to let it work that way… we give partiality to those we favor which means we are being unfair to those we don’t favor… if we looked around with with honest scales and balances – if we treated each situation with honest scales and balances – it would go a long way in keeping us on His narrow path.

James 2:1-13
The Sin of Partiality
My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism. For if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and there also comes in a poor man in dirty clothes, and you pay special attention to the one who is wearing the fine clothes, and say, “You sit here in a good place,” and you say to the poor man, “You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool,” have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil motives?
Listen, my beloved brethren: did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court? Do they not blaspheme the fair name by which you have been called? If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF,” you are doing well. But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all. For He who said, “DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY,” also said, “DO NOT COMMIT MURDER.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty. For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.

He Without Sin…

Ya know – its not a bad thing to talk against sin… it can be useful to help others recognize their need for Christ… it can be useful for helping others avoid a sinful act…

but man – who are we are we kidding?

John 8:7
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.”

That verse is about a woman who was caught in the act of adultery – but that really wasn’t the point – was it? I’ve heard all the justifications around this – the man wasn’t brought with her – so she really couldn’t be tried – etc etc – but thats all a work around…

The point wasn’t the sin of the woman – the point was the sin of those who accused the woman…

Who among us is without sin? Let me give you a clue – we ALL fall short of the glory of God…

So what are we doing making these videos condemning sinners? Do they do anything to bring anyone to the knowledge of Christ? I don’t think so. I think all they do is feed our desire to see someone stick to the bad guys – someone pwning the unbelievers and really shoving their crap in their faces…

yeah – thats a good Christian… isn’t it? No – It really isn’t… its childish – its like when a kid gets caught sneaking a cookie – so he rats out his sister who was taking two cookies –

I keep going around in circles in my walk with Christ over this whole judgement issue– and each time I do – I get further and further away from the man inside me who condemns others… there was a time when I thought nothing of picking out the people who would be frying in hell – this one’s going cause he is gay – that one’s going cause he lied – she’s a slut – so she’s gotta be going – so on and so on…

but ya know what – every time I’ve gone there – Jesus has put it on my heart that I can’t judge a person’s salvation – and each time I go around this circle – I find more and more truth in that… I can’t even trust my judgment on the salvation of professing Christians because most of them aren’t even following the Lord…

So here’s my goal – the new thing thats really not new – just a rededication…

I am going to stand for what the New Testament teaches – regardless of who I tick off – regardless of the claims of prideful and hypocritical blow hard Christians say – and in the end – I will watch as Jesus decides among us…

Matthew 11:29 and 30 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Really search for the depth of that passage brothers and sisters… He who has ears, let him hear. its more than a catchy sales pitch… learn from Jesus – He is GENTLE and HUMBLE in heart – in Him there is REST for us – His Yoke is easy and his burden light…

Ooshy Gooshy Way

How can you tell the world – tell every boy and girl
That Jesus told you to be cruel -
How can you look away – from all He had to say
Who told you you could change the golden rule?

You act as if you are – the judge who’s yet to come
but buddy – you’ve got lots to learn
You’ve torn the grace apart – and judged anothers heart
because of that it just might be your turn

Now don’t call the way – an ooshy gooshy way – I just don’t think you understand
Cause Jesus wasn’t teaching – the hatred that you’re preaching – I think you ought to read the word again

You can fool your friends – and get them to pretend
That you are mighty in the Lord
But Jesus in the end – He came not to condemn
He came so that we could all be reborn

It’s good to call out sin – but then the love kicks in
You’ve gotta learn to trust His way
If someone will not hear – the way is really clear
That person has to answer judgement day

Now don’t call the way – an ooshy gooshy way – I just don’t think you understand
Cause Jesus wasn’t teaching – the hatred that you’re preaching – I think you ought to read the word again

Now don’t call the way – an ooshy gooshy way – I just don’t think you understand
Cause Jesus wasn’t teaching – the hatred that you’re preaching – I think you ought to read the word again
Now don’t call the way – an ooshy gooshy way – I just don’t think you understand
The way of Christ is love – there never is enough – I think you ought to read the word again

Now don’t call the way – an ooshy gooshy way – I just don’t think you understand
Cause Jesus didn’t come –for you to act so dumb – I think you ought to read the word again
Now don’t call the way – an ooshy gooshy way – I just don’t think you understand
Cause Jesus didn’t come –for you to act so dumb – I think you ought to read the word again

Now don’t call the way – an ooshy gooshy way – I just don’t think you understand
Cause Jesus wasn’t teaching – the hatred that you’re preaching – I think you ought to read the word again
Now don’t call the way – an ooshy gooshy way – I just don’t think you understand
The way of Christ is love – tI know for you that’s tough – I think you ought to read the word again
