A Response to Yokeup

To all my brothers and sisters in Christ…

I want to apologize to all of you for the part I have played in the ever escalating drama that is going on between Yokeup and myself. I preach that we should love our enemies, and that we should seek peace in all situations, but I have been unable to even keep the peace with a man who professes Jesus to be His Lord as well.

While it is absolutely true that I strongly disagree with the way Jeff treats non-believers; while it is true that I believe his behavior has been anything but Christ-like; I cannot say that I have been an example of Christ in response to him. I could have and should have handled the whole thing in a better way.

You see, I don’t know what God’s plan is for Jeff. I know that what he is doing goes completely against the grain of what Jesus is leading me to do, but I have forgotten that the wrath is God’s alone. If God wants Jeff to change, Jeff will change. If Jeff refuses to conform to the teachings of Jesus Christ, then it will be his downfall, as God will not be mocked, but maybe Jeff is exactly as Christ wants him. Who am I to judge?

I have written Jeff; I called Jeff on the phone; I have made videos refuting his techniques; and he has done nothing but harden himself to every thing I have tried to share with him. I can do no more. I sat here last night, thinking of how I would respond to his public declaration that I am a lukewarm, watered down Christian. How would I respond to him comparing me to Joel Olsteen? And after praying on it, and sleeping on it, the following is my response…

God bless you Jeff. If you believe I am lukewarm, then I will let my life speak for itself. Jesus knows my heart. God bless you Jeff. If you think I am watered down, then I pray it is the water of the river of life, and may I forever be soaked in it. If you believe I am like Joel Olsteen, all I can say is amen! He also professes Jesus Christ to be his savior, just as you do, just as I do. I forgive you for the things you’ve done to hurt myself and my ministry.

God bless you Jeff, I see you are on fire for the Lord, but I pray you will not forget to heed His words in your zeal. God bless you Jeff, as I pray you are filled with the Holy Spirit, completely and utterly filled with His Gospel. God bless you Jeff, as it is an honor to be your brother in Christ, and I look forward to laughing about all this drama when we meet in heaven. I pray you’ll forgive me for anything I have done to hurt you or your ministry.

I love you Jeff, and I believe that we are all on a path of maturing in the Spirit. I believe we are all falling short of the Glory of God, but that He will make a way for us to be as One, so that others will know that Our Father did indeed send His Son.

With that, I pray we are all blessed in the grace and forgiveness of God, and that we strive to be as One as our Savior commands.

God Bless you all…

Sadly – Things Aren’t Looking So Good in Israel

Hundreds of New Testaments torched in Israel
(CNN)– Police in Israel are investigating the burning of hundreds of New Testaments in a city near Tel Aviv, an incident that has alarmed advocates of religious freedom.

Investigators plan to review photographs and footage showing “a fairly large” number of New Testaments being torched this month in the city of Or-Yehuda, a police spokesman, Micky Rosenfeld, said Wednesday.

News accounts in Israel have quoted Uzi Aharon, the deputy mayor of Or-Yehuda, as saying he organized students who burned several hundred copies of the New Testament. The deputy mayor gave interviews to Israeli radio and television stations after word of the incident surfaced about two weeks ago.

Soon he was talking with Russian, Italian and French television stations, “explaining to their highly offended audiences back home how he had not meant for the Bibles to be burned, and trying to undo the damage caused by the news (and photographs) of Jews burning New Testaments,” The Jerusalem Post reported.

Aharon told CNN on Wednesday that he collected New Testaments and other “Messianic propaganda” that had been handed out in the city but that he did not plan or organize a burning. Instead, he said, three teenagers set fire to a pile of New Testaments while he was not present. Once he learned what was going on, he said, he stopped the burning…

‘Pathetic Atheists?’

Michelle2chat, a sister from Youtube, just put up a video I think states the opposition we should all have against attacking atheists as Christians. It is one thing to try to correct someone in love, but its another to attack the atheist endless and enjoy it. That’s sadism.

Jesus First

Some of you are aware that Fellowship of the Martyrs (FOTM) is under attack on Youtube for their teachings on marriage. In fairness, I am not completely up to date on what their teaching is, but apparently they dispute the validity of marriages that are made outside of the will of God. Apparently, if a couple marries and they aren’t following God, or they aren’t believers, they believe God doesn’t honor that marriage and it is completely ok to walk away from the marriage. If I have I am misunderstanding their teaching I trust that someone will correct me on this, but the truth of the matter is it doesn’t matter if I am misunderstanding them or not in the context of what I am about to write.

I have been heavily criticized for the way I read the Bible, and how I take in the scriptures, however, I have always been led (by the Holy Spirit, I believe) to read the scriptures in a tier of authority.

I read the Bible in this manner…

Jesus comes first – what He said goes, and if it contradicts anything that the Apostles or the Old Testament (OT) professes in any way, then Jesus trumps those things, and I follow Him. This scripture has always seemed to drive this point home to me:

John 21
20 Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”)
21 When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?”
22 Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.”

No matter what, I must follow Jesus. Period.

I consider the writings of the Apostles to be next in the line of authority. If anything they wrote opposes anything in the OT, and it doesn’t contradict Christ, then it stands.

Finally, there is the OT, which is full of lessons, but I cannot accept it as equal to Christ because Christ gave different (whether we call His commands new, enhancements, clarifications, expansions, or whatever other term people have dreamed up) commands that directly opposed the OT. The following scripture demonstrates this.

Matthew 5
38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’
39 But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well.
41 If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.
42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

To me, I believe that Jesus brought us a better covenant, and because it is better, it is different than the former covenant.

Luke 22
19 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

Thus, in the case of what FOTM is suffering, they would never be faced with this if they had not looked for ways around marriage in the OT. If they were to simply accept what Jesus taught concerning marriage and divorce, there would be nothing against them in this regard. Jesus said no divorce except for adultery, period. There were no provisions for marriages outside the ‘will of God’ or ‘covenant of God’. Besides, Paul addresses marriage to an unbeliever in 1 Corinthians 7!

We must follow Him, above the Law of Moses, above the writings of the prophets, above even the Apostles, it is Jesus first. People can rationalize around this all day long. They can declare that Jesus is God and thus His words are also the words of the OT, but they cannot reconcile why Jesus directly opposed things from the OT. They can declare that God never changes, and I believe this, but we have to trust that Jesus knows more about what is going on than we do, or than the Jews did…

Mark 10:5
5 “It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied.
“But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’
‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,
and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one.
Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

Luke 24:44
He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”

John 1:17
For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

John 15:25
But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated me without reason.’

Don’t get me wrong, the OT is a needed component of the Bible, but I do not accept it as equal to the teachings of Christ and the Apostles. Perhaps I lack an in depth knowledge of the OT. Perhaps I am wrong here, but I don’t think so. I think one of the biggest problems with Christianity is that we try to reconcile the Old Testament to the teachings of Christ when we should recognize a clear difference between the two.

2 Timothy 2
1Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

So many times we hear, keep our eyes on Christ, and thats exactly what I try to do… above all else.

I Preach About Where I Want To Be In Life, Not Necessarily Where I Am

Talking to my wife today it became obvious that while I am good at professing principles I often forget practicalities and the nature of reality. What am I talking about? I am talking about our walk with Christ, and how we all fall short even though we technically should know better.

For instance, I speak against violence, and yet I cannot say without a doubt that I would not fight for my life and the lives of my family if pushed into a life or death situation. I would like to believe that I would fall to my knees and trust the Lord in such cases, but no one can really know what they will do in those kind of situations until they are in them. When I speak against violence, war, or death penalties, I don’t do so in order to judge those who approve of such things. I speak against them because in principle, its how a follower in Christ should speak. If we would all grasp onto the principle of peace, then we might really change the world, but I can’t fault others who don’t have a measure of faith to accept peace at all costs.

When I speak against anything, be it murder, theft, lying, hypocrisy, adultery or looking in lust, divorce, religion… I do so from a principle point of view, not a practical point of view, and it doesn’t necessarily reflect the reality of my life. While I would like us all to embrace the principles of Jesus Christ, I know that we all fall short of them.

I preach about where I want to be in life, not necessarily where I am. I just felt moved to let you guys know the obvious… and that is that I also fall short of the Glory of God. I am not perfect, and if I am a ‘saint’ it’s only through the grace of God. I am no better than anyone else, and I pray that I haven’t left any of you with a false impression.

May God bless us all – and help us find maturity in the Holy Spirit.

Sigh of Relief

Last night my whole Mac computer died. Inexplicably, without reason, it just went. This ole e-mac is pushing 6 years old and that’s pretty good considering the e-mac was designed for five years of service or so (from what I am told). I was panic stricken.

You see, Di and I have stretched our means to their limits, having a hefty mortgage, two car payments, and all the joyous bills that come with living – lol. I struggled to get the system operating again, to no avail. Hour after hour, things just weren’t working out.

At one point, I just stopped and prayed. Lord knows without the Mac our HJD ministry would be in flux. The Youtube videos would all but cease. Even my emails would be difficult to respond to.

Yes, I could go out and buy a budget PC to do the job, but last time that happened (when my i-mac died about 6 years ago), it was a blazing mess.

Well, like an answer to my prayers, I suddenly had the idea to partition my hard drive in two. And wouldn’t you know it, I was able to get the system running again? I’ve never partitioned a hard drive before, but out of no where the idea came to me. Its not very stable, and I certainly don’t trust the thing, but for now it is running. God will provide. He always does, and I take this band-aid fix for the computer as an example of His glorious ability to aid me when there seems to be no way out.

Glory be to God!

Blessed Be Your Name…

When I posted the lyrics to Blessed Be Your Name by Matt Redman yesterday, I thought that everyone would know the song. To my surprise, some of you have never heard it, so here’s a link to his myspace page (click here)… on this page, Matt has four songs. The fourth song is Blessed Be Your Name! Now everyone can hear it!

PRAISE HIM IN ALL THINGS

Today I heard an interesting message, and thought I would share a wonderful part of it with you all… perhaps you’ve heard the song, “Blessed Be the Name” by Matt Redman? I am sure if you have, you’ve noticed this song calls out for us to praise the Lord in good and bad situations. Maybe you’ve heard sermons that preach this, or just come to this conclusion in your own walk with Christ on your own? Either way, I heard an interesting reason why we are told to praise Him in bad times…

Psalms 22:3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. (kjv)

or – as the verse is worded in modern translations…

3 Yet You are holy, O You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel. (nasb)

“inhabitest”  and “enthroned” comes from the Hebrew word “yashab” which is a verb that is defined in the Strong’s Concordance as meaning “to dwell, remain, sit, abide”.

This means God is present in the praises of Israel – which all the followers of Jesus Christ have been grafted into (Romans 11)…

Thus – when times are tough, and you feel like God is not there for you, when you praise Him, according to King David, God will be present. Praise the Lord He is SO good to us!

Blessed Be Your Name
by Matt Redman
- – -
Blessed Be Your Name – In the land that is plentiful – Where Your streams of abundance flow – Blessed be Your name

Blessed Be Your name – When I’m found in the desert place – Though I walk through the wilderness – Blessed Be Your name

Every blessing You pour out – I’ll turn back to praise – When the darkness closes in, Lord – Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord – Blessed be Your name – Blessed be the name of the Lord – Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name – When the sun’s shining down on me – When the world’s ‘all as it should be’ – Blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your name – On the road marked with suffering – Though there’s pain in the offering – Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out – I’ll turn back to praise – When the darkness closes in, Lord – Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord – Blessed be Your name – Blessed be the name of the Lord – Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be the name of the Lord – Blessed be Your name – Blessed be the name of the Lord – Blessed be Your glorious name

You give and take away – You give and take away – My heart will choose to say -Lord, blessed be Your name
