About The Prayer Request Text Hot Line…

Some of you have asked us what’s up with the the new Prayer Text Hot Line (Text 978-254-7514)? I know, people get leery when they see a Christian with a number because that usually means that the Christian is fishing for contact info by which to barrage you with solicitations for money. This isn’t the case with us…

You see, as I grow more comfortable with my ipod touch, I have found some very cool apps. One of those apps is called TextFree. What TextFree does is it assigns you a phone number (In our case, 978-254-7514) for the purpose of receiving text messages on your ipod touch just like you would on a cell phone (provided you are in a wifi hotspot, which I usually am). How much does it cost? Its FREE! I just have to put up with these little ads at the bottom of the message browser. For the people texting the line, there is no additional cost outside their own phone’s texting plan.

When someone sends a text to us (Text 978-254-7514), we do receive their phone number – but that’s all we receive unless a person puts specific information about themselves in the text message. However, we are not keeping records on the phone numbers. You will never receive a call from us – nor will we try to sell your number to anyone.

Quite simply, this is our way of trying to use some of today’s technology to improve our connection with you the reader. Having the ability to text us for prayer means if you’re on the road and in a car accident – we can pray for you right then and there… if your at the hospital away from your computer and you need immediate prayers for a friend or family member we are ready to go… if you’re a drug addict and you’re sitting outside a dealer’s house and you are struggling – feeling the temptation to go in and get a fix – you can text us and know we are praying for the Lord to give you strength within a minute! If you need prayer – we are here for you!

GBU and HJD and text 978-254-7514

Oh yeah – if you call the number you’ll hear a message about TextFree and we receive an email to tell us someone called.

Empty Threats…

Friday night was insane. The Youtube channel was being spammed. I was told I was going to be flagged until the channel was forced closed. People were posting lies and vulgarity all over the channel and the videos. I was receiving email threats that this site would be hacked. While I wasn’t afraid, I was certainly concerned. Let’s face it – though few of us really know how much a hacker can or cannot do to our various internet endeavors – they do seem to carry almost a supernatural aura about them due to that lack of knowledge.

I prayed for a lot of things that night. I prayed for calmness. I prayed for patience. I prayed for protection.

Now it’s Sunday morning, and the channel is still there. This website is still online. God is good.

Through all of this, I have realized that the truth really upsets the enemies of God. Who was behind all the threats? Who knows? There accounts were closed almost as soon as their threats and vulgarities were posted, but one thing is for sure, God knows who they are and it’s in His hands.

I think it’s important to remember that the people who created all this fuss aren’t the enemies, but the devil who pushed their buttons and pricked their pride is. Lord willing, seeds were planted and Jesus can start to come into their lives as well.

Glory be to God, for He is great.

God Chat Returns!

For those who have known us for a long time – they will surely remember the God Chat. This chat was a simple text based chat that was small, yet dedicated to the Lord. When stickam started to become all the rage we tried to move it over to their service and before too long interest in the God Chat had pretty much died off. Thus, we let it go.

There was a lot of history with the God Chat. Lives were changed, people brought to Christ, Christians brought closer to Christ, and in at least one case, a romantic match had been made. You see, I met my wife Diana in the HJD God Chat.

Lately, we have both been feeling like we should try to bring it back – the God Chat that is. Thus, I went into Stickam over the last few weeks, to get a feel for things again, and found that it is still a buggy chat system with lots of lag and many distractions. This isn’t what a God Chat should be, in our humble opinion. This leads us to today, in the waning hours of the afternoon, we committed to the God Chat once again. If you look to the left you’ll be find the ‘God Chat’ link at the top of the ‘Quick Links’.

So what do you need to know about this incarnation of the God Chat? It is still a simple text based chat room out here in the middle of the net, however, this time, you will be able to register your name with a password – thus insuring no one can come in pretending to be you. It will still be attended Monday – Fridays, 9pm to 12am EST… but anyone who remembers how the old God Chat worked knows that Diana and I don’t always make it in on time. I anticipate Wednesdays will be tough to make it on time as I have been recruited to help teach the Church Bible Study on Wednesdays and Fridays will be tough as well since we are still doing the Friday Night Youth Group… never-the-less… we will give it our best shot.

We hope to see you there… till then, HJD, GBU, and Peace Out!

Gay Marriage, Civil Unions, and a Nation Cursed

Civil Unions?

This came up while talking politics – specifically McCain’s position on gay marriage – and that is the concept of civil unions.

A civil union is a legally recognized union similar to marriage. Civil Unions are intended to provide same-sex couples with equal rights, benefits, and responsibilities as straight married couples. Many homosexuals are critical of civil unions because they say they represent separate status unequal to marriage. They want the title marriage over their relationships. Others are critical because they say civil unions allow same-sex marriage by using a different name.

Looking at it from a Christian point of view – there is absolutely no difference between condoning gay-marriage or civil unions for homosexuals. Both cases legally condone homosexuality. Thus, politicians who oppose gay marriage but support civil unions are feeding their constituents a line of crap. They are playing with words to attempt to appease both sides of the argument.

Now many homosexuals may wonder why it is that Christians come down against them on this issue. After all – if we Christians believe that each man is accountable for his own sin unless they are saved under the grace of Christ, why are we so concerned about whether or not our neighbor Jeff is married to a girl named Sue or a guy named Ted? Why do we care?

I think you have a lot of homophobia in American Christianity, but I don’t think it’s fair to claim that to be the exclusive reason for Christian opposition – and I don’t even believe its the number one reason for Christian opposition. I believe the biggest reasons we Christians oppose gay marriage and civil unions comes down to these two points.

The will of God and the response of God to our actions.

First and foremost – no matter how people may try to twist the scriptures – we repeatedly find the Bible is all about straight relationships and it condemns homosexuality.

There  are the prohibitions in Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13, which declare that for a man to “lie with a male as though lying with a woman” is “an abomination” or “detestable act”. While we may not be under the Law in Christ – this certainly reveals God’s view on homosexuality. We know God is consistent about this as Romans 1:24 -27 reveals.

Thus – we do try to save people from this grave and dire sin against God. We warn them with our words, we sometimes rebuke them with our protests, and sometimes – despite the Christian call to be patient and compassionate – we go too far against homosexuality – instead of letting them be we try to force our will on them, which is wrong.

But there is a second reason Christians should oppose gay marriage and civil unions. And in this second reason there is justification for we Christians to take moral stands. Its not something that is completely unknown to anyone – but it is readily denied by many. Ask yourself this, “how much will God bless a disobedient nation?”

America is steeped in sin – abortion, adultery,  drunkenness, fornication, greed, drugs, porn, war mongering… and now – gay marriage and civil unions. Throughout the Bible – nation after nation – including Israel had to deal with the consequences of their sins. America is no different. Make no mistake – if Israel suffered for her transgressions as a nation – so shall the USA!

If you look at our nation – the more sin we’ve accepted into our everyday lives, the worse the nation has gotten. Many would argue that these declines are natural and would happen regardless of what we accepted – but that is a lie.

We are what we live. We are what we put into our society. If we feed the kids captialism – they become capitalists. If we feed them teen movies saying sex and drugs are cool – we get a generation of partiers who made horrible parents. If we tell them abortion is a choice, and not murder – we see abortion as a form of birth control. When society started to accept homosexuals – it became ok to be gay… now that society believes thats ok – the new push is its ok to be gay and get married…

(Can you hear the screeching brakes?!)

America is going to hell in a hand basket – and we’ve got no one but ourselves to blame…

Is it fair we hyper focus on gay marriage? Of course not – we should be fighting against all immorality equally, realizing that there is a point that we should dust off our feet and trust the Lord to do what must be done. With that said – I think most Christians involved in the gay marriage debate realize that we’ve already lost the other battles so gay marriage is almost like our Alamo in American society.

For me – its all a matter of watching America lose whatever blessing she might have left. I have already witnessed much of the grace depart this once great land in my short 40 years on this earth – and it won’t be long before America will be thought of as a fallen empire like Rome…
